55 more detained for harassing visitors to Hatirjheel

Police have detained 55 more young people for harassing visitors to Hatirjheel, taking the total number of arrests to 71.

Among them, 16 have been handed over to their parents, the remaining are in police custody. Cops claimed to have also seized some Yaba pills from the possession of the accused, reports UNB.

The arrestees have been carried out by five police teams in uniform as well as in plainclothes as part of a crackdown on street harassment.

On Tuesday also, police nabbed some 16 young people for allegedly harassing visitors to Hatirjheel. As the accused were minors, police had handed them over to their parents.

In fact, police swung into action in response to a social media complaint of youths harassing visitors to Hatirjheel, one of the most popular lakefronts in Dhaka.

In a Facebook post, a resident has alleged that in the Hatirjheel area, visitors are being harassed by some teenagers, said Md Sohel Rana, AIG (Media) at the police headquarters.

The drive will continue for the welfare of the citizens, said police.
