20 injured in magura al factional clash

At least 20 people were injured during a clash between two groups of local Awami League leaders and activists over establishing supremacy at Palashbari village in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura district on Tuesday.

Officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Tariqul Islam said two groups of local Awami League -- one led by Mantu Miah and the other led by Akram Ali -- had long been at loggerheads over establishing dominance and grabbing a piece of land in the area.

On Tuesday morning, the supporters of the two groups locked into an altercation over the ownership of the land, leading to a clash, reports UNB.

Several chases and counter chases took place during the day-long clash, leaving 20 people of the both groups injured.

The agitated AL supporters also vandalised and looted at least 15 houses during the melee.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said the OC, adding that additional policemen have been deployed in the area to ward off further trouble.
