A total of 148 Bangladeshi workers came back home from Libya on Wednesday morning, according to the welfare desk at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Besides, seven bodies of migrant workers also were brought from Libya on the same flight, it said.

BRAC’s head of migration programme Shariful Hasan said they have provided emergency services including food to the returned workers with the cooperation of the welfare desk and armed police at the airport.

On the other hand, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) gave financial assistance to help them reach home, he said.

“We have so far learnt that the workers went to Libya aiming to secure jobs in Europe. Most of them went to Libya with tourist visas via Dubai,” he added.

Mr Islam said every year a large number of overseas job seekers from Bangladesh try to go to Europe using the route of Libya.
