Three-day long CoronaThon-19, a hackathon focusing on combating the coronavirus in online platform, ended on Monday (May 04, 2020), says a press release.
The event started on May 02.
20 teams from India, Pakistan, China, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Taiwan and South Korea along with 100 teams from host Bangladeshi universities and colleges participated in this hackathon.
To develop the solutions to address the most urgent health, food and nutrition, social and financial problems caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, Daffodil International University organised this CoronaThon-19, where different technology-based solutions have been submitted from the students all over the world to solve the challenges brought on by the current pandemic.
State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak attended the closing and award announcement ceremony of the CoronaThon-19 as the chief guest while Dr M Kaikobad, professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was the special guest.
Professor SM Mahabub Ul Haque Majumder, acting vice chancellor of Daffodil International University, presided over the programme.
The programme was also addressed, among others, by Mohammad Nuruzzaman, chief executive officer of Daffodil Family, Professor Dr Syed Akhter Hossain, chief judge, head, Department of CSE, Professor Dr Towhid Bhuyan, head, Department of Software Engineering, Dr Sheikh Md Allayear, convener, CoronaThon-19 and head of the Department of Multimedia and Creative Technology (MCT) and KM Hassan Ripon, executive director, Bangladesh Skill Development Institute (BSDI).
Sani Zubaer, a student of Dhaka College, became champion in Health Care section of junior category while Ishrat Jahan Tuly, a student of Daffodil International College became runner up in the same category.
Team SOPI became champion in Open Box section. The team members are Al Mamun, Azzul Hakim and Maruf Ahmad. Sami Khan forom Daffodil International College became runner up in the same section.
Tanvir, a student of Daffodil International University, won championship in Health Care section of senior category. On the other hand, Team ‘Virus Hunter’ from Iran became runner up. The team members are Ahmed Ramazani, Ajadeh and Mohammadi.
Team ‘Smart Aquaponics System’ from Sher-E- Bangla Agriculture University won the championship in Food and Nutrition section. The team members are Iftekher Alam, Adnan Setu and Tanzid Ahmed. Team 'Digital Train' from International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) became runner up in the same section. The team members are Tanzia Binte Hafiz, Towfiqul Anam and Naimul Islam.
Team ‘Rokkhi’ became champion in Open Box section. The team members are Abrar Masum, Nasif Zaman and Fahim Hasnain. Team ‘Minions’ from United International University became runner up in the same section. The team members are Proshamta Kumar Das, Anika Tahsin and Arifa Akhter.
Daffodil International University will provide financial support of up to $25,000 to implement the idea and its well-equipped ‘Innovation Lab’ for the research activities of the best solution providers.
This hackathon will help the students to think outside of the box towards the real challenges. Students from grade 10 to post graduation level from various countries participated at this competition in junior and senior categories either individually or as a team comprising maximum three members. Selected solutions/tools will be checked, rechecked, modified and implemented with the guidance of experts from Daffodil International University and all around the world, the press release mentions.
