Industry-academia collaboration at IUT Career Expo

The Islamic University of Technology Career and Business Society (IUT CBS), a student association of IUT, has successfully arranged its first ever gamified career fair 'Career Expo 2021' powered by Spaces on April 18 and 19. After a brilliant first edition offline in 2019, the club shifted gears to a complete virtual platform amidst the pandemic.
The event was premiered live on Facebook conducting panel discussions and career sessions with several C-suite executives on the topic of industry-academia linkage. Top industry professionals from different companies interchanged and shared their experiences, insights and views on industry-academia collaboration, skill specialisation and diversification, necessary skill sets, entrepreneurship, future job market, etc. The collaborative participation of students and graduates made this daylong-programme remarkably captivating.
Participants joined the event with their virtual avatar, communicated with company representatives, and explored job opportunities in pretty much a virtual-reality platform. In eight separate areas, the virtual booths were set up to let the companies optimally promote their products and present themselves in front of the students and fresh graduates.
Although the event took place online, it garnered huge responses from companies such as ANTS Aerial Systems, Bae Innovations, Banglalink Digital Communication Limited, BAT Bangladesh, Battery Low Interactive, Berger Paints BD Limited, bKash, Bondstein, Catalytic Interactive, Intelligent Machines, HandyMama, Jobmarket (BD) Ltd, Kalke, Kona Software Lab Limited, Linde Bangladesh Limited, Loop Freight, Marico Bangladesh Limited, PFEC Global, Shah Cement, Sheba Platform Limited, ShopUp, Shuttle For Business, Singularity Limited, and SMEC International Pty Limited.
Walton and PFEC Global co-sponsored the event. The Financial Express was the official media partner while Syndicate was strategic partner, Kalke was career partner, and Smartifier Academy was the knowledge partner. The affiliation of a total of 27 leading companies and more than 1,500 participants brought this event a new milestone.
This fest has set forth both career opportunities and insights for the alumnus. IUT CBS plans to adapt and accomplish more in the future through generating innovative ideas and being the trendsetter in the university society ecosystem.
