Tamabil Land Port starts full-fledged operations

Tamabil Land Port (TLP) along Gowainghat border area in Sylhet has started its journey as a full-fledged land port.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan inaugurated the land port on Friday morning, local media report.

In his inaugural speech, Muhith said that both India and Bangladesh will be benefited with the opening of the land port.

“Tamabil Land Port will reduce poverty and create employment opportunities,” said Muhith.

Muhith mentioned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the best leader of the world. He also said that Bangladesh enjoys economic development when she (Hasina) remains in power.

TLP has started its operations aiming to expand business activities with Bhutan and Indian states Tripura, Nagaland, Assam.

The land port is 60 kilometres away from Sylhet city and 300 kilometres from Dhaka.

On May 8, 2015, Shajahan Khan laid the foundation of this land port.

Bangladesh mainly imports coal, leather and limestone from India and exports pickles, juice, chips and other goods to India through Tamabil port.

The India government also carried out development works at its Dawki Land Custom Station situated at West Khasia district in Meghalaya state opposite to the Tamabil Land Port through declaring it as an Integrated Check Post (ICP).
