Vietnam's unemployment rate among those aged 15 and above stood at 2.05 per cent in 2019, with the figure in its urban areas almost double that of rural areas, the country's 2019 population and housing census reveals.

Results of the census, released by the General Statistics Office (GSO) recently, indicate that Vietnam's rural areas, where lives up to 65.57 per cent of its population, saw an unemployment rate of 1.64 per cent among people aged 15 and above.

While the rate in urban areas was 2.93 per cent, daily newspaper Vietnam News cited the census as reporting on Wednesday, reports Xinhua.

People with post-graduate degrees had the lowest unemployment rate at 1.06 per cent, while some 3.19 per cent of junior college graduates were unemployed, highest in all educational groups.

Vu Thi Thu Thuy, director of the GSO's Population and Labor Statistics Department, said differences in access to job information, specialized skills, and flexibility in job options could be the causes behind these gaps.
