Vietnam's industrial production advances 10.2pc in 2018

Vietnam's national index of industrial production advanced 10.2 per cent on-year in 2018, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Friday.

Main driver of the surge, the processing and manufacturing sector, went up 12.3 per cent, contributing 9.5 percentage points to the overall growth, reports Xinhua.

Electricity production and distribution sector grew 10 per cent, contributing 0.9 percentage points, and water supply and waste management grew 6.3 per cent, contributing 0.1 percentage points.

Production of oil and petrol witnessed the largest output expansion on-year at 51.2 per cent, followed by raw steel and iron (up 43.8 per cent), liquefied petroleum gas (29.8 per cent) and television sets (up 24 per cent).

Meanwhile, outputs of crude oil went down 11.3 per cent and mobile phones down 1.0 per cent.

Central Ha Tinh province posted the highest industrial production growth of 89 per cent in 2018, tailed by northern Thanh Hoa province (34.9 per cent), northern Hai Phong city (25.2 per cent) and northern Vinh Phuc province (15.2 per cent).
