Singapore manufacturing output growth accelerates to 11.1pc in May

The manufacturing output of Singapore grew 11.1 per cent year on year in May, compared to the 9.1 per cent increase in April, the country’s economic development board (EDB) said on Tuesday.

The EDB said the output grew 9.8 per cent year on year in May, compared to 9.2 per cent in April, excluding biomedical manufacturing.

In the first five months, the city state’s factory output grew 9.8 per cent year on year, reports Xinhua.

On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, the country’s manufacturing output increased 0.4 per cent in May. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output fell 1.2 per cent.

In a breakdown and on a year-on-year basis, the electronics cluster's output increased 17.1 per cent in May, while the chemicals cluster, the transport engineering cluster, the biomedical manufacturing cluster, the precision engineering cluster and the general manufacturing industries saw their outputs up 8.6 per cent, 3.0 per cent, 17.7 per cent, 0.8 per cent and 5.2 per cent, respectively.
