Three policemen in Shariatpur district have been suspended for transporting mother Hilsa defying a government ban.
The policemen are-- Sub-Inspector Montu Mia of Motor Vehicle Department of Shariatpur Police Lines, and constables Hridoy and Sanjit, reports UNB.
The government imposed a 22-day ban on catching, selling, hoarding and transporting Hilsa from October 9 to 31 to ensure their safe spawning.
Shariatpur police chief Abdul Momen said locals caught the policemen red-handed while transporting the mother Hilsa around 11:30pm.
Later, Mahabubur Rahman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Sadar upazila, distributed the seized fish among orphanages.
