T-Aman rice growers in Bogura district are frustrated over low prices prevailing in the market.

A good number of farmers said they are in a difficult situation as newly-harvested Aman is being sold at a low rate across the district.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources, farmers have achieved over 0.8 million tonnes of yield from some 0.19 million hectares of land this season.

All the 12 upazilas of the district have seen a bumper output this season, DAE officials added.

Farmer Hasan Zobbar of Dupchanchia upazila said, "I have sold 15 maunds of rice at Tk 9,000 whereas my production cost was Tk 10,000".

During a recent visit in some local kitchen markets, this correspondent found farmers are selling newly-harvested T-Aman paddy at Tk 700 to Tk 720 which is lower than their production cost.

Saiful Islam of Kahaloo upazila said he has cultivated T-Aman paddy on eight bighas of land spending Tk 92,000 and got 140 maunds of yield.

The farmer said he apprehends incurring losses this season instead of making a good profit.
