BOGURA, Dec 03: Early winter mustard cultivation is going on in full swing in the district.

Sources said a good number of farmers in all the 12 upazilas of the district grow the oil seed this time every season to make some extra profit.

Some cultivators said mustard production is profitable than potato, maize, cucumber and chilli.

Excellent growing of mustard plants is predicting a bumper production this year, they added.

"I started farming mustard on 33 decimal of land at the end of November. I have already spent Tk 40,000 as production cost aiming to get over 8.0 maunds of yield," said farmer Joynaul Uddin of Nandigram upazila.

Early-cultivated mustard is generally sold at Tk 2,400 to Tk 2800 per maund", he added.

He further said farmers expect to start the harvest from the first week of February.

Farmer Samsuddin of Dupchanchia upazila said he is growing high-yielding mustard seed on three bighas of land this season after harvesting short-duration BINA-7 paddy.

Deputy Director of DAE Nikhil Chandra Biswas said elaborate steps have been taken by the department to make the farming programme a success.
