Boro rice transplantation work going on in Bogura

BOGURA, Jan 29: Boro rice transplantation work across Bogura district is progressing fast as the weather of the region is quite favourable now for the job.

From the very early stage like sowing seeds, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officials are ensuring smooth assistance to the grassroots level farmers providing logistic support to make the farming a success.

To motivate the farmers, authority concern has distributed some 20 kg sDAP and 10 kgs MoP fertilisers free of cost to each of them. Besides, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) office has disbursed over 20 kgs of quality seeds of Boro rice as incentive. 

Farmer Jalil Hossain under Shariakandi upazila said he cultivated Boro rice on two bighas of land and hope to achieve some 38 maunds of output.

If the weather condition remain favourable till harvesting period the farmers will grow approximately 0.9 million tonnes of fresh Boro rice from Dupchanchia, Kahaloo, Adamdighi, Shibganj, Nandigram, Shajahanpur, Sherpur, Dhunot, Shariakandi, Sonatola, Gabtoli and Sadar upazilas of the district.

"I have brought some three bighas of land under Boro rice cultivation this season spending Tk 12,000 aiming around 60 maunds of fresh yield," said farmer Arun Kumar under Nandigram upazila of the district.

To make the farming successful, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) has disbursed cereal loan among the poor farmers at five per cent interest. The farmers seek co-operation from DAE official whenever the crops will be affected with different pest attack.

Besides, Power Development Board (PDB) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) promised to supply adequate electricity to irrigate the farming well.

DAE official said steps have been taken to ensure smooth supply of seed, fertilisers, electricity and delivering technologies to make the Boro farming programme a success. The farmers have also shown interest to bring more land under the crop on a large scale, he added.
