Islamic Relief Bangladesh wins Bond International Development Award 2019

Islamic Relief Bangladesh has won the Bond International Development Award 2019 in innovation category for eliminating extreme poverty of orphaned children and widows in Bangladesh.

This Alternative Orphan Family Sponsorship Programme through Sustainable Livelihoods (ALO) supports orphans and their guardians to establish sustainable livelihoods, combining cash transfers with knowledge and skills building.

The four-year ALO project was implemented in three northern districts: Kurigram, Rangpur, and Lalmonirhat.

The announcement came on Tuesday night at a function styled Celebration of Winning Bond International Development Award 2019 held at a city hotel organised by the NGO itself.

Planning Minister MA Mannan was present on the occasion as the chief guest with Islamic Relief Bangladesh's Country Director Akmal Shareef in the chair.

BIISS Chairman and Ambassador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Munshi Faiz Ahmad and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare Sushanta Kumar Pramanik, among others, spoke at the event

Director General of NGO Affairs Bureau, Prime Minister’s Office KM Abdus Salam and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Md Aynul Kabir also attended the function as special guests.

Bond, an umbrella group of international development organisations, announced the award at its annual conference in London on 18 March 2019.
